Transformers is a project that aims to encourage active civic involvement of citizens using artistic, cultural and educational techniques for building creative and tolerant public spaces and giving contribution to the life in the local communities. The project is implemented by the Center for Balkan Cooperation LOJA from Tetovo in partnership with the Association of the Textile and Leather Industry Workers 'The Silent Majority / LOUD' from Štip. Our idea is to enable people from different local communities to reflect on their real issues and culture of addressing “their own” social space, exchanging between themselves in an intercultural and creative process. By strengthening the role of arts and creative approaches, through working together, getting trained, debating and dealing with socio-political issues in our society, we want to bridge the division and to create synergies between different regions of Macedonia; at the same time bridging the division between civic organizations and state actors. Through the project some 40 youth activists and artists received training in group work and socially engaged public art, gained knowledge for usage of various artistic and educational tools and got trained to use them in benefit of civic, urban and creative activism, contributing to engagement of more youngsters and peers to the same purpose. In the frame of the project in 2017 about 20 different interventions in public space on identified actual local issues in the cities of Tetovo and Štip (and the regions around these cities) are to be realized by local volunteers.
